William A. Bill Swanson, 78, of South Gibson, PA., died Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at the Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale, PA., after a brief illness. Born March 9, 1930 in Great Bend, PA., he was the son of the late Aldrich and Marguerite (Manning) Swanson. He was a graduate of the Harford Vocational High School, class of 1948. Bill enjoyed his employment as a trail groomer at the Elk Mountain Ski Resort, in Union Dale, PA., for 38 years. He also served as a Deputy Warden with the Pennsylvania Game Commission for 33 years. He was a former coach with the South Gibson Little League and was an active member of the South Gibson Sportsman's Club. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, hunting and sportsman activities. He is survived by three cousins: Arnold Manning of South Gibson, PA., Faye Steele of Milford, NJ. and Dorothy Crawford of Brookville, FL.; and many good friends. The funeral was held Monday, September 22, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Dundaff and Main Streets, Clifford, PA., with the Rev. Levi Ransom, officiating. Interment, Gelatt Cemetery, Gelatt, PA. Friends called Sunday, September 21, 2008 from 5-8 PM. Pallbearers: Richard Manning, Paul Gleva, John Reeder, Larry Griffin, Dick Roberts and Allen Jones.
