William "Bill" Sears, 83, of Carbondale, PA, died Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA, after a lengthy illness.

Born May 9, 1943 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Robert "Nubby" and Ruth Thompson Sears.

Bill was a graduate of Piscataway High School, Piscataway, NJ. and was a Navy veteran having received the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Cuba). Prior to his retirement, he was a self-employed painter and paper hanger in New Jersey for many years. Bill was an avid bowler.

He is survived by one daughter: Lori Spiker of Prosser, WA; two sisters: Ann Perry and husband, Frank "Rodi" of Carbondale, PA, and Margaret Opalka and husband, Robert of Scott Township, PA; one brother: James Sears and wife, Rosa of North Carolina; a sister-in-law: Carmella Sears of Carbondale, PA; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister: Patricia Martin; a brother: Robert Sears; and his longtime companion: Ruth Reeser.

Military honors will be accorded at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA, privately for family.
