Obituary

William F. McDonnell, 62, of Dalton, PA., died Thursday morning, June 19, 2008 at the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. He was the husband of the former Holly Churi. Born May 2, 1946 in Scranton, PA., he was the son of the late Mark and Madelyn (Gerrity) McDonnell. He was a graduate of the University of Scranton and received his masters degree from East Stroudsburg University. He was an army veteran having served in Vietnam. From 1972 to 2004 he was employed by the Department of Environmental Protection and finished his career as the Regional Director. He was later employed as the executive director of the Scranton Sewer Authority from 2004 to 2006 and was also the proprietor of the consulting firm, Brennadele, LLC. He was a member of the board of directors at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock, PA., and was a member of the Falls Township planning commission. In 1998, he received the Friend of Lehigh River Award and he was also a member of the Lake Winola Lions Club. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and New York Giants fan. He also enjoyed reading, watching movies and traveling. He is survived by one daughter: Adele Shanahan of Dalton, PA.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Bob and Carol Churi; brother-in-law: Brian Churi; nephew: Seth Churi; niece: Erin Churi; grand nieces: Raegan and Macie Churi; Several cousins. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Brenna McDonnell. As per Bill's request, there was no public visitation or funeral. A private memorial service was held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were entrusted to the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in Bills name to Tyler Memorial Hospital, 800 SR 6W, Tunkhannock, PA 18657 or to VNA Hospice of Lackawanna County, 301 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant, PA 18447.
