William P. Bill McCann, 83, formerly of Washington Street, Carbondale, PA., died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 while a patient in hospice care at Regional Hospital of Scranton.
Born and raised in Carbondale, PA, he was the eldest son of the late James and Evelyn (Clark) McCann.
Bill was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Scranton. Prior to his retirement in 1990 he was employed by Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus and past member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Lions Club both of Carbondale.
Bill was also a stanch Boston Red Sox fan. He was an extremely loving and generous person and will be sorely missed by family and friends. He was very devoted to his family, especially his nephews Jim and Mike.
The family of Bill expresses appreciation to the Carbondale Nursing Home where he was a resident for the last several years, and particularly to Northeast Hospice at Regional Hospital of Scranton for their care and compassion given to Bill during his last days.
He is survived by one sister: Janet McCann of Forest City, PA; one brother: James McCann and wife Joanne of Ringtown, PA; two nephews: James McCann of Manassas, VA and Michael McCann and wife Clarissa and their two children Benjamin and Alyssa of Pheonix, AZ; In addition, he is survived by a number of cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother: Michael McCann.
The funeral was held Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 10:15 AM from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, associate pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Friends called Saturday, July 23, 2011 from 9:30 - 10:15 AM at the funeral home.
