William B. Lopatofsky, 79, of West Clifford, PA, left this earth on Friday morning, February 24, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Betty Lou Arnold, celebrating 55 years of marriage on July 28th.
Born in Simpson, PA, on March 9, 1932, he was the son of the late Thomas J. and Susan Renock Lopatofsky. He graduated from Harford Vocational High School in 1949.
As a devoted Catholic, he always made it a priority to be at weekly mass as a member of Holy Trinity Church in Simpson from 1932 and then as a faithful member of St. Pius X Church in West Clifford from its inception in 1961.
A successful businessman, Bill and his wife owned and operated Northeast Equipment purchased in 1958. He also developed a family dairy farm in 1964. In 1993, he was able to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning and operating a restaurant and ice cream shop, Uncle Bill's in Waymart, PA, which he and his wife enjoyed immensely. In 1998, he was able to establish another farm property in Bradford County that gave him great joy.
Bill was appointed as a director of the board of Community Bank and Trust in 1982. He was also a director and past president of Susquehanna County Pennsylvania Farmers Association, a director of Pennsylvania Farm Equipment Association, Pennsylvania Grange member and member of the Knights of Columbus. A gifted businessman in several endeavors, Bill felt that the senior high school bookkeeping class taught by Norman J. Mazza was foundational to his later successes.
Bill enjoyed talking to all types of people from various backgrounds; always upbeat, inquisitive and encouraging in such conversations, he made friends everywhere he went. And, friends and family knew not to call at 7:30 pm weeknights - It was time for Jeopardy - and he played along with the other contestants.
