Wesley "Stub" Stephens, 87, of Lenoxville, PA, and Daytona Beach, FL, died Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center, following a brief, courageous battle with brain cancer. He was married for 65 years to his wife, Lois Snyder Stephens. Born in Chinchilla, PA, on December 2, 1929, he was the son of the late, Ross E. Stephens and Mollie Chamberlain Stephens Wells. He was the stepson of the late Glen F. Wells. Stub was a US Army veteran where he served in the Korean War from 1952-1954. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a subcontractor at Proctor & Gamble, Northeastern Technical Institute and Herb Kilmer Flagstone. One of his many hobbies and passions he had in life was that he enjoyed chauffeuring his granddaughters to many events, gathering every morning with the guys for the "Coffee Club", going to the hunting camp and also looking after the grand dog, Bella. Stub was a Dirt Car Racer for over 27 years and wore the #40, 85 and 27 at tracks Beach Lake, Moc-A-Tek, Five Mile Point, Herb Harvey's and Penn Can Speedways winning many track championships. Most memorable was winning the 100 lap races at Penn Can in 1968 and 1970. Stub's racing enthusiasm took his travels to the South every year where area local race and bike week fans would stop to visit him. He was inducted into the We-Go Racing Fan Club Hall of Fame. His joy later in life was to have his granddaughters come to visit in Florida to ride bikes on the beach and feeding the seagulls. He was a member of the Lenoxville United Methodist Church, charter member of the Clifford Twp. Volunteer Fire Co., and a lifetime member of Elk Mt. VFW Post 8488 in Lenox. Surviving is his loving wife, Lois; son, Bruce of Lenoxville, PA; daughter, Kay Burney and husband, David, granddaughters, Cailin and Devin all of Clifford, PA; sister-in-law, Dorothy Snyder of Endwell, NY; nieces and nephews; grand dog, Bella Stub. He was also preceded in death by brother-in-laws, Elmer and Leon Snyder. Stub's family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Neal Davis and Staff for all the exceptional care they provided over the years. Plus an extended thank you for the support of the 2nd Floor Staff at Forest City Nursing Home for all they did to keep him comfortable. The funeral was held Monday, January 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA, with Pastor Eric Watkins of the Lenoxville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment, Clifford Valley Cemetery, Clifford. Military honors were conducted by the Elk Mountain VFW Post 8488 and fireman's honors were conducted by the Clifford Twp. Volunteer Fire company. Honorary Pallbearers: Peter DeFazio, George Spedding, William Williams, Thomas Rusek, Robert Lynch, Richard Field, Richard Morin and Donald wells. Pallbearers: Thomas McGurrin, Gary Kilmer, Chris Marcho, Francis Opeil, Joseph Gaughan, Michael Ford IV., David Burney and Kay Burney.
