Walter J. Lynady, 91, of Waymart, PA, died suddenly on Sunday afternoon, August 4, 2024 while visiting Aylesworth Park in Archbald, PA, with his wife. He is survived by his wife the former, Una L. Bennett. They recently celebrated 68 years of marriage on July 21st.

Born October 13, 1932 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Walter and Isabelle McCormick Lynady.

Walter was a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard's 109th Infantry Regiment of the 28th Infantry Division, serving in Germany during the Korean War. In 1950 he was on the troop train carrying the 28th Division to Camp Atterbury, Indiana, when the train was hit head on by another train due to fog in Coshocton, Ohio killing 33 troops, Walter was not hurt.

Walter spent 30 years working at the Chamberlain Corporation in Scranton, before his retirement. He and his wife enjoyed visiting the casinos in Atlantic City and at Mount Airy Resort. They also liked camping and had fond memories of traveling cross country in their custom van. Walter was also an avid fisherman. Walter and Una spent 16 years caring for their grandson, J.R., who was afflicted with cerebral palsy at birth and passed away in 2010.

He is also survived by his five children: Cynthia Lynady and companion, Joseph Tomcavage of Mayfield, PA, Walter Lynady, Jr., and wife, Donna of Jessup, PA, Michael Lynady of Waymart, PA, Marie Gallinot of Clifford Township, PA, and Ronald Lynady of Clifford Township, PA; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by two grandsons: Jamie Lynady and J.R. Liuzzo; and a brother: Charles Lynady.

Private funeral services were held Friday, August 9, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. from Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place, Carbondale, PA, with Rev. Seth Wasnock, pastor of Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, officiating. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

Pallbearers: Ronald Lynady, Michael Lynady, Walter Lynady, Joseph Tomcavage, Brandon Frisbie and Scott Christina.
