Obituary

Walter C. Holtsmaster, 74, of South Gibson, PA, died Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, PA. His wife is the former Linda A. Wells. They were married January 12, 1991. Born April 2, 1941 in Carbondale, PA, son of Doris Schenck of South Gibson and the late Walter Holtsmaster. Walter was an Army veteran and worked as a computer analyst for L3 Communications, Binghamton, New York for 33 years prior to his retirement. His greatest joy was restoring antique cars and attending car shows across the country with his wife Linda. They loved to travel and took many wonderful trips together. He enjoyed the beach and participated in the Triple Cities Street Rods, Binghamton, NY. He is survived by two sons: Walter C. Holtsmaster, Jr. of Forkston Township, PA and Mark Holtsmaster and wife Dawn of Moscow, PA; two step daughters: Donna Rowe and husband Craig and Karen Stone and husband Roger all of New Milford, PA; five grandchildren: Bethany Yarrison, Emily Holtsmaster, Bryn Dotzel, Cage Dotzel and Adam Holtsmaster; three sisters: Marsha Violetti and husband Rick of Bay Shore, NY, Patricia Barney and companion Fred Benson of Lenox Township, PA and Marlene Dean and husband Larry of South Gibson, PA; two brothers: Gary Holtsmaster and wife Carol of Myrtle Beach, SC and Frank Holtsmaster and wife Kaye of Thompson, PA; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one step son: Brad Dotzel. A memorial service was held Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the South Gibson United Methodist Church, South Gibson, PA, with Pastor Marge McCarty, officiating. A military service was conducted by the Elk Mountain VFW Post 8488. Friends called Thursday, February 4, 2016 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Arrangements were under the care of the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Clifford, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were sent to the Gino Merli Veterans Center, 401 Penn Avenue, Scranton, Pa 18503.
