Obituary

On Labor Day, September 5, 2016, W. Susan Farrell, a resident of Waymart, PA peacefully passed away surrounded by her loving family. Her loving Husband of 57 years is Joseph W. Farrell. She was born in Philadelphia to Edward and Whilma Crockenberg Sullivan. At an early age she moved with her family to the 1700 block of Jefferson Avenue in Dunmore where she resided until she married. She graduated from St. Paul's High School in Scranton and obtained a degree from Lackawanna Business College. She met the love of her life Joe at Elk Lake where she continued to enjoy her summers throughout her life. After marrying and starting a family, the family moved to Schoolhouse Lane in Somerville, New Jersey in 1963. She loved the town of Somerville. She ensured that her boys attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and Immaculata High School. She worked as a Supervisor at the Somerset County Board of Social Services. She was loved by her co-workers because of her kindness and compassion. While in Somerville she was a regular congregant of Immaculate Conception Church where all of her boys served as altar servers. She was a devoted Mother who was involved with all of her sons' activities. She was a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts, a playground aide at her sons' school and she coordinated the local paper routes for her sons and other paperboys. She was devoted to her sons and gave them everything she had to ensure their happiness. She instilled in her boys the importance of kindness, caring and helping those in need all while maintaining a sense of humor. She was fiercely protective of them yet understood the importance of their independence and adventuresome nature. Along with her mother, she took her young boys on adventures travelling to California, Florida and Niagara Falls by automobile while her husband worked long hours as a machinist. She made Christmas mornings so special that presents spilled into two rooms. She never missed a basketball, little league or football game that her sons' played in or coached. She carried on these same traditions with her grandchildren attending every one of their school plays, graduations, dance recitals and sporting events, sometimes travelling up to two hours to attend them. "Grammy" loved taking her grandchildren to Disney World numerous times over the years providing magical memories for all. She spent her summers at Elk Lake with her children and then her grandchildren as well as the extended family of friends on the lakefront. The first thing her husband Joe would do when he arrived home after a long day from work would be to kiss Susan and they would tell each other "I love you". They were perfect role models for their children. After retiring from Social Services as a Supervisor, Susan and Joe returned to Pennsylvania to be closer to their three sons. She is survived by her husband Joseph; her son Joseph and his wife Maria of Vandling and their children Michael and Bryanne; her son Michael and his wife Jane of Waymart and their children Donovan, Courtney and Shawn and Courtney's daughter Charlotte; her son Attorney Christopher and his wife Kathleen of Waymart and their children Kaitlynn, Kayleigh Rose, Conor and Colin. She is also survived by her brothers Dennis Sullivan of Dunmore, Michael Sullivan of Montoursville and his twin brother Phillip Sullivan of Clarks-Summit. Her brothers affectionately referred to her as "Queen" since she was her Father's only daughter. She is predeceased by her son Edward Farrell who passed away as a young child.
