Virginia C. Potter, 87, of Honesdale, PA, died Thursday morning, January 8, 2015 at VNA Hospice, Scranton, PA, after a brief illness.
Born January 27, 1927 in Honesdale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Catherine Hiller Bishop. Prior to her retirement, Virginia worked as a seamstress in the local garment industry. She was an avid sewer who enjoyed making clothes for her family. She also enjoyed her trips to Florida where she loved to sit on the dock and fish.
She is survived by one son: Gary Bates of Honesdale, PA; a grandson: Raymond Bates, Jr. and wife Lisa of Satsuma, Florida and daughters, Jessica and Jennifer and stepdaughters, Lale (Lala) and Line (Lena) of Germany; a grandson: Christopher Bates of Honesdale, PA and daughter, Kadee Bates of Scranton, PA; a granddaughter: Colleen Bates Lefferts and husband Mike of Honesdale, PA and sons, Nathan and Jonathan; three sisters: Arlene Rose of Beach Lake, PA, Gertrude Loring of Florida and Wansley White of Waymart, PA; a daughter-in-law: Linda Day and husband Al of Equinunk, PA.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons: Raymond and baby Robert Bates; two brothers: Harland and William Bishop; three sisters: Rose Schuman, Almeda Augello and Adeline Bishop; her longtime companion: Joseph Gregor, Jr. As per Virginia's request, she was cremated and no services were held.
