IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Virginia "Janie"
Lawless
April 28, 1941 – June 20, 2024
Virginia "Janie" Lawless, of Dunmore, PA, passed away June 20, 2024 at Regional Hospital, Scranton, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Robert Lawless.
Born on April 28, 1941 in Lenoxville, PA, Janie was the only daughter of the late Tony and Doris Sherman Decavage.
Janie found passion working at the Lackawanna County Children's Library in Scranton, where she worked as a circulation clerk for nearly 23 years that began on September 11, 2001. She was known as "the face of the library" by her colleagues as she was the first person library patrons would see when they visited the children's library and a place where she found great joy helping young readers find the right book. An avid reader herself, Janie enjoyed learning about the Native American heritage to which she proudly shared having roots, and enjoyed going to nearby pow-wows with others who shared her passion. In her off time, Janie enjoyed crocheting, going to movies and plays, and spending time with her friends. She was adventurous and enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends over the years.
