Viola M. Rivenburg, 95, formerly of Tompkinsville, PA., died Monday morning, March 13, 2006 at Laurels Health Rehab Center, Sturges, PA. She was the wife of the late Harry R. Rivenburg who died February 3, 1967.
Born November 18, 1910 in Jermyn, PA. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Grace Decker Merritt.
She was a charter and the oldest member of the Tompkinsville United Methodist Church, Tompkinsville. She was also a member of the Community Bible Church in Heart Lake, PA.
She was a graduate of the Greenfield Township High School where she was Valedictorian of her class. She was the last living member that attended the one room Carpenter School which is now at the Greenfield Township Volunteer Fire Company. She worked as a nurses aid at the Carbondale General Hospital and Stillmeadow Home in Tompkinsville.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who will be dearly missed by her family.
She is survived by one daughter: Alice Everitt of Carbondale, PA.; two sons: H. Ronald Rivenburg of Bel Air, MD. and Russell Rivenburg of Jermyn, PA.; 9 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces Nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son: Rex Rivenburg; two brothers: Richard and Stanley Merritt.
The funeral was held Friday, March 17, 2006 at 11:00 am from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Dundaff Main Streets, Clifford, PA., with the Rev. Linda Bryan, pastor of the Tompkinsville United Methodist Church and Rev. Jay Best, pastor of the Community Bible Church, Heart Lake, officiating. Interment, Tompkinsville Cemetery, Tompkinsville.
Friends called Thursday, March 16, 2006 from 2-4 7-9 PM.
