Vincent Jim Spinello, 64, of Waymart, PA. and formerly of Brooklyn, NY., died Monday, February 4, 2013 at home. His devoted wife and best friend of 40 years is the former Louise DiRosa. Born December 7, 1948 in Sicily, Italy, he was the son of Vincenza Failla Spinello of Brooklyn, NY and the late Salvatore Spinello. He proudly served in the U.S. Army being stationed in Korea and as a reservist for an additional five years. Before his retirement, he was a member of the Teamsters Union, working for the NYC Department of Sanitation for 22 years. Whether it was trash removal or plowing snow on his route in Brighton Beach and Coney Island he loved being outdoors in all types of weather. He was a people person, so this was the perfect job for him to be out in public. He received the Bronze Medal for Valor from the late NYC Mayor Ed Koch for apprehending a fleeing criminal and in 1998, he was named Sanitation Man of the Year for service above and beyond. He was a member of the Columbia Association, where he marched in the NYC Columbus Day Parade and met the late Cardinal John O'Connor at St. Patrick's Cathedral. He enjoyed volunteering much of his time helping handicapped children. His honesty, generosity and willingness to help others earned him many friends in his lifetime. Vincent will be remembered for a life of purpose, character and selflessness. He loved his pets, especially Jake the Pug but his greatest love was his family. Vincent knew well that life lasts for a moment, but love is forever. He is survived by his daughter: Christine Cistulli of Waymart, PA.; his son: James Spinello, a NYC Peace Office and his wife Jill of Brooklyn, NY.; his grandchildren who were the three jewels in his crown: Nicole, Vince and Nicholas; two sisters: Josephine Nativo of Staten Island, NY. and Rose Saitta of Egg Harbor, NJ.; brother and sister-in-law's: Michael DiRosa and wife Cathy of Hazlet , NJ; Frank DiRosa and wife Robin, Tony DiRosa and wife Renee and JoAnn Lewis and husband Russ all of Waymart, PA.; many nieces and nephews, including Kaylan Barber who was like a daughter to him and Louise. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law: Nick Cistulli, whom he mentioned at least once a day for the past nine years since he passed; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Frank and Carmella DiRosa; his nieces: Vivian and Rose Saitta. A blessing service was held Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 6:00 PM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, PA., with Rev. Joseph Sitko, pastor of St. Mary's Church, Waymart, officiating. Inurnment with military honors was held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 12:00 PM in the Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart, PA.
