Victor Cortes, 75, of Carbondale, PA. and formerly of Egg Harbor Township, NJ., died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at the Lackawanna County Health Care Center, Sturges, PA.
He was the husband of the former Barbara Brown.
Born July 22, 1930 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Rosa Antonio Cortes.
Victor was a chef in many area restaurants and hotels in Atlantic City and Somers Point, New Jersey. Before retiring he worked at the Claridge Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.
Victor loved working in his garden and enjoyed his children and grandchildren. He was also involved with the Neighborhood Crime Watch and liked playing cards with his best friends Neri and Thelma Sanchez.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by two sons: Anthony Wayne Cortes, Sr. and wife Tami of Mays Landing, NJ., and Victor Scott Cortes and wife Lynn of Tompkinsville, PA.; one sister: Sarita Solivan and nephew Moses Solivan of Atlantic City, NJ.; eight grandchildren: Philip, Wayne Jr., September, Dina and Margie of New Jersey; Scotty, Carolyn and Ethan of Pennsylvania; four great grandchildren: Tammy Marie, Alyssa, Sean and Tabatha of New Jersey.
The funeral was held Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at 2:00 pm from the Salem United Methodist Church, Park Avenue and Main Street, Pleasantville, NJ., with the Rev. Willard H. Boyer, Jr., pastor, officiating.
Cremation followed at the Maple Hill Crematory, Archbald, PA.
Pallbearers: Wayne Cortes, Sr., Scott Cortes, Wayne Cortes, Jr., Moses Solivan, Michael Sanchez and Philip Stuckey.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted under the care of the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
