Vernon C. Whitbeck, age 73, of RD, Nicholson, PA. died Sunday evening, January 25, 2004 at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock, PA. He was the husband of the former Lois Ross. Born July 11, 1930 in Nicholson, PA. He was the son of the late Leonard H. and Grace (Whitsell) Whitbeck. He was a graduate of Harford Vocational Schools. Prior to his illness he had been employed for the past six years in the maintenance department at Sams Club in Dickson City, PA. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the Air Force. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by one daughter: Bonnie Mercado of Pinebush, NY.; one son: Richard Whitbeck of Gardiner, NJ.; one brother: Joseph E. Whitbeck of Fairlawn, NJ.; 5 Grandchildren; Nieces and Nephews He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Leslie Whitbeck and Leonard H. Whitbeck, Jr. The funeral was held Thursday, January 29, 2004 at 11:00 am in the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Dundaff and Main Streets, Clifford, PA., with the Rev. Levi Ransom, officiating. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park, Montdale, PA. Friends called Wednesday, January 28, 2004 from 6-9 PM. Pallbearers: Richard Whitbeck, Scott Mereado, Tim Frenchko and Art Compton.
