Thomas J. Snipes, 90, of Mayfield, PA, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025 after an extended illness. His wife of 65 years is the former Mary Wagner.
Born January 26, 1935 in Peckville, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Frances Yaris Snipes.
Tom was a graduate of Archbald High School and was a well-known self-employed plastering contractor and member of the plasters and mason's union. Tom also worked as a security guard for Farview State Hospital and the Carbondale Area High School. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and the National Guard and received a marksman award. Tom was an avid fisherman and gardener and will be fondly remembered as the family handy man and jack of all trades.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Carbondale Nursing Home and Allied Hospice.
He is also survived by his children: Elaine Glessner (Robert J.), Thomas (Michele), Alan (companion, Joyce), Gary (Marie Elena) and Daniel (Kathryn); grandchildren: Angalene (companion, Chris), Kari (Deric), Robert M., Christina (Jon), Colin, Gary, Jakob, Benjamin, Sawyer, Lindy and Stacy (Brandon); great-grandchildren: Dominick, Alexander, Lailah, Anna, Emily, Brady, Jane, Brayden, Aliyah, Jagger and Harper; sister: Alice Muta; sisters-in-law: Carol and Judy Wagner and Jane Bowness; brother-in-law: David Wagner (companion, Ann); and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was also preceded in death by his infant children: Mary Kathleen and Mark Thomas; daughter-in-law: Susan Snipes; sister: Rosemarie Bunomno; brother: Raymond Snipes; sisters-in-law: Anne Gillette and Mae Wagner; brothers-in-law: Ronnie Muta, Walter (Annette), Joseph (Janet), Leo, William and Jerry Wagner.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. from Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Church, 622 Madison Avenue, Jermyn, PA, celebrated by Rev. Ryan Glenn, pastor. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Colin, Gary, Jakob, Benjamin, Sawyer and Alexander Snipes and Deric Reed.
The family received friends Tuesday, March 18, 2025 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the church.
