Thomas J. Scavo, 81, of Carbondale, PA, died Sunday morning, October 14, 2018 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA, after an illness. He is survived by his wife the former Joan Neary. They were married on July 16, 1960.
Born August 2, 1937 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Anthony and Anna Balzano Scavo.
He was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and had served with the 109th infantry division of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed for over 30 years as an electrician for the Chamberlain Corporation, Scranton. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale.
Tommy's world revolved around his family. He cherished the time spent with family and friends and he will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. Frank Moro, Dr. Pius Ochieng, Dr. Stafford Smith, and the 3rd floor ICU staff at Geisinger-CMC for their kind and compassionate care given to Tommy during his illness.
He is survived by two daughters: Kathleen Farley and husband Thomas of Hawley, PA and Karen Pisarcik and husband Paul of Crystal Lake, PA; seven grandchildren; Nicholas Fallon, Nathan Fallon, Jess Penesso and husband Kevin, Thomas Farley, Christopher Pisarcik, Paul Pisarcik and Hannah Pisarcik; one great-grandson, Brayden Russell; a sister-in-law: Gloria Scavo of Carbondale, PA; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother: Charles Scavo, and a sister: Catherine Cerra.
The funeral was held Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, concelebrated by Rev. James Price, C.P., pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and Msgr. David L. Tressler, pastor of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and March Church, Jermyn, PA. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Nicholas Fallon, Nathan Fallon, Christopher Pisarcik, Paul Pisarcik, Thomas Farley, Thomas Didato, Mark Totsky and Kevin Penesso.
Friends called Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 4-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, PA, 18407.
