Obituary

Thomas Moffitt, 82, of Jermyn, PA and formerly of Salem Avenue, Carbondale, PA, died Sunday night, July 10, 2011 at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, PA. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Catherine Hosie. Born in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Elizabeth (Thomas) Moffitt. He was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by Hendrick Manufacturing in Carbondale. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Church, Jermyn and was a former member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Tom enjoyed wood carving and spending time with his family. He was greatly respected by his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice Community Care for the wonderful care and compassion given to Tom. He is survived by five children: Thomas Moffitt, Jr., Michael Moffitt and wife Kristen and Coleen Moffitt all of Carbondale, PA., Trish Pearsall and husband Rich and Cathy Sisson and husband Ralph all of Jermyn, PA.; eight grandchildren: Lauren and Richard Pearsall, Evan, Rachel, Isabella and Sophia Moffitt, Jeremy and Jillian Sisson; three brothers: Paul, Charles and Donald Moffitt all of Carbondale, PA.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother: Roland Moffitt. The funeral was held Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10:00 AM from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale., celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, associate pastor. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Wednesday, July 13, 2011 from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were made in Tom's name to Hospice Community Care, 100 William Street, Dunmore, PA 18512 or the Alzheimer's Association, 57 N. Franklin Street, Wilkes Barre, PA 18701.
