Thomas J. Halloran, Sr., 54, of Jessup, PA, died Monday, August 28, 2017 at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife the former Wendy Bevilacqua. They were married on October 7, 1995.
Born August 16, 1963 in Scranton, he was the son of the late James P. and Ann Sansenbach Halloran.
Tom was raised in Olyphant, PA and was a graduate of Mid Valley High School and the University of Scranton. He was a veteran of the Air Force and had been employed by the postal service for many years before retiring as post master of the Jermyn Post Office. Tom was extremely active in the community and had been a member of the Jessup Planning Commission and the American Legion Post 327 in Olyphant. He was a big supporter of children's athletic programs in both the Valley View School District as a member of their booster clubs and as a board member and former coach with the Carbino Club Little League in Jessup. He was responsible for organizing the first Valley View Cougar Family Carnival.
He was a loving and caring husband and a proud and supportive father who was always there to cheer on his children in everything they did. He was a thoughtful brother who always looked forward to spending time with his siblings and their children at family get-together's. Tom was a loyal friend who was always there to offer a helping hand and never expecting anything in return. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the VA Medical Center in Wilkes Barre, Geisinger-CMC and their progressive care unit and NROC for their kind and compassionate care to Tom over the past year.
He is survived by four children: Thomas, Jr., Abbey, Matthew and Steven all at home; four brothers: James Halloran and partner Luis Rangel-Ortiz of San Antonio, TX, Joseph Halloran and wife Bridget of Clarks Summit, PA, Paul Halloran and wife Barbara of Olyphant, PA and Charles Halloran of Clarks Summit, PA; two sisters: Erin Myers and husband Bill of Clarks Summit, PA and Ellen Kovaleski and husband Michael of Clarks Summit, PA; his mother-in-law: Ann Bevilacqua of Jessup, PA; sister-in-laws: Denise McGowan of Scranton, PA and JoAnn Bevilacqua of Jessup, PA; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Cindy Halloran and a brother-in-law: Paul McGowan.
The funeral was held Saturday, September 2, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. from Hudak-O'Shea Funeral Home 115 N. Garfield Avenue, Olyphant, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Parish, 200 Delaware Avenue, Olyphant, celebrated by Msgr. Michael Delaney, pastor. Interment, St. Patrick's Cemetery, Blakely, PA.
Pallbearers: Thomas, Jr., James, Joseph, Paul, Charles and Ian Halloran, James and A.J. Gilgallon.
Military honors were provided by American Legion Post 327, Olyphant.
Friends called Friday, September 1, 2017 from 4-8 p.m.
Jason Parise of Parise Funeral Homes, Carbondale, PA, assisted the family with funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were sent in Tom's name to the donor's favorite charity.
