Thomas F. Benson, Sr., 74, of Carbondale, PA., died Sunday night, February 14, 2010 at the VNA Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA.
He was the husband of the former Jean Ruth Glasser. They were married on April 16, 1955.
Born April 2, 1935 in Wilkes Barre, PA., he was the son of the late Thomas and Bertha Benson.
He had resided in New Jersey for several years before moving back to Carbondale. Before his illness, he had been employed as a tool and die maker.
He was a proud man and was extremely proud of his oldest son Thomas who served in the military. He will be deeply missed by his children. He was always there for them through both the good and the bad times in their lives. He is now at rest and they love him very much.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the VNA Hospice Unit for the terrific care given to their beloved husband and father.
He is survived by seven children: Barbara Swartz and husband Stanley of Carbondale, PA., Joyce Coyle and husband Patrick of Carbondale, PA., Thomas F. Benson, Jr. of Scranton, PA., Doreen George of Browndale, PA., Roxanne Goussen of Carbondale, PA., Harold Benson of Carbondale, PA. and Jennifer Benson of Carbondale, PA.; 15 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; one niece and four nephews in New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by one great granddaughter: Marissa Jones; one brother: William Benson; one sister: Arlene Vendemia.
A Blessing service was held Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 9:30 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with Msgr. David A. Tressler, pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, officiating. Interment, St. John's Cemetery, Jessup, PA.
Friends called Wednesday, February 17, 2010 from 4-8 PM.
