Theresa E. Mata, 89, of Scranton, PA, and formerly of Carbondale, PA, died Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Mata, Sr., on January 21, 1973.

Born August 2, 1933 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Bronie and Mary Stepper Aleckna.

Prior to her retirement, she was a longtime housekeeper at St. Rose Church Rectory in Carbondale.

She is survived by five children: Theodore Burke, Martin Mata, Jr., Patricia Dickinson, Christine Mata and Cathleen Mata.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter: Caroline Sekula.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnak, pastor.
