Steven Joseph Woody, 39, Carbondale, PA, died Friday, July 3, 2015 at home. Born November 10, 1975 in Carbondale, he is the son of Joseph Woody, Sr. and Naomi Muchal Woody both of Simpson, PA. Steven had been employed by United Cerebral Palsy and worked in a group home where he enjoyed working with the residents. Steven was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, grandparent, godfather and last but not least a loyal friend to many. He had a heart of gold and always looked for the best in everyone. Steven enjoyed playing the guitar and composing music, especially with his friend, Paul Ryan. He is survived by two brothers: Joseph Woody, Jr. and wife Sarah of Forest City, PA and Jeremy Woody of Scranton, PA; a sister: Melinda Newhart of Moscow, PA; two step sisters: Dawn Emmett of Simpson, PA and Renea Hallock of Scranton, PA; nieces and nephews: Joseph Woody, III., Alexis Woody, CiaraRose Muchal, DakotaAnthony Hiller, EthanMarcus and CoraAlina Frishko, Adeline and Arcadia Houman; maternal grandmother: Joan Muchal of Archbald, PA; his companion: Christina Valentin of Carbondale, PA; a daughter: Melissa McWilliams of Killeen, TX; two step children: Mariah and John; a grandson: Colten; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins all living throughout the valley. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Muchal; maternal grandfather: Donald Muchal, Sr.; paternal grandparents: Robert and Frances Woody; a brother-in-law: Paul Frishko, Jr. Friends called Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 4:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale. A service was conducted at 8:30 p.m. by Pastor Tim Madden of the Cornerstone Bible Church, Forest City, PA. Cremation followed. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial donations to assist with funeral expenses.
