Stephen J. Wood, Jr., 74, of Carbondale, PA. and originally of Norwich, CT., died Sunday evening, July 2, 2006 at the Marian Community Hospital, Carbondale after a courageous battle with cancer. His wife of 46 years was the former Anna Mae Apostolico who died April 24, 2006.
Born April 5, 1932 in Norwich, CT., he was the son of the late Stephen J., Sr. and Julia (Krupinski) Wood.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church in Carbondale. He was a graduate of the Norwich High School in Norwich, Connecticut and was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War and stationed in Alaska. He worked for 35 years and retired from Gorins Furniture Company in Norwich, Connecticut where he was a furniture refurbisher. He was a member of the Simpson VFW Post 4712.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the American Cancer Society.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews including his niece and caregiver: Michele Carpenter
He was preceded in death by one sister: Teresa Marion
The funeral was held Thursday morning, July 6, 2006 at 8:30 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, Norwich, CT.
A private viewing for family members was held Wednesday evening, July 5, 2006 from 7-9 PM.
