Sophie A. Leute, 84, of Carbondale, PA., died Saturday morning, April 10, 2010 at the Community Medical Center, Scranton, PA. She was the wife of the late Walter Leute, Sr. Born July 19, 1925 in Eynon, PA., she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Anna (Borzik) Sockovicz. She was an avid gardener and reader and she loved to cook. The greatest joy of her life was being able to watch and care for her great grandchildren. She is survived by four grandchildren: Desiree Durkin of Carbondale, PA, Zee and Lonnie Meckwood both of Nicholson, PA., and Becky Leute of Peckville, PA.; 7 Great Grandchildren; one son-in-law: Charles Meckwood of Brackney, PA.; Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by one son: Walter R. Leute; one daughter: Margaret Meckwood; one sister: Fernie Velez; three half brothers: Gus, Anthony and Frank Petrosavage. The funeral was held Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 10:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Msgr. David L. Tressler, pastor. Interment, Jermyn Cemetery, Jermyn, PA. Friends called Tuesday, April 13, 2010 from 9:00 - 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
