Sophie Chermak, 87, of North Scranton, Pa., died Friday morning, November 2, 2012 at Hospice Community Care, Dunmore, PA., after a brief illness. She was the wife of George Whitey Chermak. They celebrated 49 years of marriage on October 31st.
Born August 25, 1925 in Scranton, PA., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Annette Shola.
Prior to her retirement, she had been employed for many years as a presser in the local garment industry. She was a member of the Taurus Club, the Polish Club and Mary, Mother of God Roman Catholic Parish all of North Scranton.
She loved her cats and was an excellent cook. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be deeply missed.
She is survived by one son: Charles Chic Primich and wife Janice of Dickson City, PA.; one step daughter: Joann; two grandchildren: Charles Primich and wife Renee of Greenfield Township, PA. and Sharon Boandl and husband John of Dickson City, PA; three great grandchildren: Ginger Boandl, Christopher and Samantha Graham; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Monday, November 5, 2012 at 10:30 AM from the Bomberger-Lesko Funeral Home, Inc., 1660 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in Holy Rosary Church, 316 William Street, Scranton, celebrated by Rev. Cyril Edwards, pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
Pallbearers: John Jones, Christopher Graham, Charles Primich, Jerry Peters, Wayne Stout and Robert Gataveskas.
Friends called Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 4-7 PM.
Arrangements were entrusted to the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
