Sonia Gray, 75, of Union Dale, PA, died Wednesday morning, October 19, 2017 at home after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gray who died on January 4, 2008. Born February 25, 1942 in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Norman Calvin White and Sophie Mensel Bologansky. Prior to her retirement, Sonia was employed as a nurses aide at the Carbondale Nursing Home and was also a devoted foster parent for over 20 years. She was a longtime resident of Carbondale but her love of horses relocated her and her husband to Union Dale 17 years ago. She enjoyed her years living in the country tending to her horses and farm. Sonia was the proud matriarch of her family. Whether caring for the sick, volunteering to babysit or offering advise and consul she could always be counted on in a moments notice. Sonia's son, Chopper would like to thank the following people who assisted him in caring for his mom over the past several years during her battle with Alzheimer's. Special thanks is given to Sonia's sisters, Jane and Lorraine; special caregiver, Kay Gow; neighbors, Dave Brainard and Richard Bedzarczyk; and her physician, Dr. Allen Orehek and staff. She is survived by one son: Robert "Chopper" Gray and wife Mimi of Simpson, PA; one daughter: Carrie Prebich and husband Rob Bendersky of Carbondale, PA; three grandchildren: Joseph Prebich and wife Ellie, Kyle Atkinson and wife Kelly and Bobbi Jo Bendersky; four great grandchildren: Emma, Autumn, Kyler and Kage; two sisters: Jane and Jerry Wagner of Union Dale, PA and Lorraine Turano of Carbondale, PA; one brother: Stephen Bologansky and wife Carla of Carbondale, PA; several nieces and nephews. Friends called Monday, October 23, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA. A Catholic blessing service was conducted at 8:00 p.m. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Arrangements were entrusted to Edward A.
