Obituary

Shirley I. Newton, 72, of Olyphant, PA, died Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Richard A. Newton on November 26, 2020. Born August 15, 1948 in Scranton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Evelyn MacNamara Price. Shirley was raised in Kingsley, PA, and was a graduate of Mountain View High School. She later attained her nursing degree from Mercedian Nursing School in Scranton, and worked as an operating room nurse at Mercy Hospital, Scranton. Prior to her retirement, she worked private duty nursing for VNA Hospice. She attended the Peckville Assembly of God Church and loved her dogs. She and her husband were foster parents for over 20 years, caring for many children during that time. She is survived by four children: Matthew Newton and wife, April of Taylor, PA, Cody Newton of Allentown, PA, Nicholas Newton of Olyphant, PA and Natalie Newton of Taylor, PA; five grandchildren: Lilly, Nicolette, Carter and Peyton Newton and Landy Burkland; a brother: Stuart Price and wife, Marcy of Georgia; nieces and nephews: Sherry Kramer and husband, Eric, Theresa Price, Tony Price, Paula Price and Mark Shultz. She was also preceded in death by a brother: Reese Price. Due to the pandemic, a graveside service for both Shirley and Rich will be held in the summer at the Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA. Arrangements were entrusted to Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Clifford, PA.
