Sebastian J. "Sam" Cassaro, 75, of Coconut Creek, FL, died Thursday, March 12, 2015 in Pompano Beach, FL.
Born in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Patrick, Sr. and Antoinette Luparella Cassaro
Sam was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale and later served in the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Essex. When he resided in Carbondale, Sam served on Carbondale City Council and was the owner and publisher of The Carbondale Review and also operated a printing and silk screening business. Thirty years ago he and his family moved to Hilton Head, South Carolina where they resided for 10 years and for the past 19 years Sam resided in Florida. While residing in South Carolina and Florida, Sam spent his career in the printing and advertising business. He was also the co-founder of an outreach magazine called, Save the Turtles. He was greatly loved by his family and friends.
He is survived by six children: Elizabeth Lubanski, Kathleen Gallo, Patricia Lammy, Ann Sweet, Mark Cassaro and Sarah Sullivan; two step children: Lorne Ladner and Debra Ladner-King; 18 grandchildren; two brothers: Patrick and Joseph Cassaro; his longtime companion: Ronnie Barbara Chase; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his former wife: Rosemary (Jordan) Thompson also a Carbondale native.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Marek Wasilewski, assistant pastor. Inurnment, parish cemetery, Carbondale.
Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, assisted the family with arrangements.
