Sarah Gillott, 69, of Carbondale, PA, died Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton, PA, after a lengthy illness.
Born February 12, 1947 in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Patrick J., Sr. and Mary Talarico Gillott. She was a 1965 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and was senior class president and also graduated that same year from Lackawanna Beauty School, Scranton. In her younger years she was involved in her family's business, Fallbrook Bakery, Carbondale, and was known by everyone as the pizza delivery person. She was the owner of Sarah Gillott Beauty Salon, Carbondale, for over 50 years. She was a devoted member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale, and it's Altar and Rosary Society. For many years, she was active with the church's annual feast and her home was a refreshment stop during the church's annual procession of the Blessed Mother through the streets of Carbondale's West Side. A deeply religious person, Sarah was quick to pray for everyone in need and hosted many group rosary recitals at her home, as well as, summer retreat mass outside her home. She was very instrumental in getting the Christmas nativity placed in Carbondale Memorial Park, something she was proud of. She was a member of the local Red Hatters Society and a member and past president of the Carbondale Professional Hairstylists Club. Sarah spent countless hours rooting for her beloved New York Yankees. She was a generous person who always put the needs of others before her own. She provided endless amounts of food to the sick and bereaved and during the holidays she provided family and friends with many of her famous Italian delicacies. She will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends. She is survived by one brother: Patrick "P.J." Gillott, Jr. and wife Helen Marie of Jessup, PA; a sister-in-law: Sandy Gillott of Mayfield, PA; nephews and nieces: Joseph Gillott and wife Kimberly, Patrick "P.J." Gillott, III., Michael Gillott and wife Amy and Melissa Egyed and husband Scott; great nephew and niece: Ethan and Gabriella Gillott; an aunt: Betty Amato of Florida; numerous cousins. She was also preceded in death by a brother: Joseph Gillott. The funeral was held Monday, February 13, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. under the direction of her cousin's at Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. James Price, C.P., pastor and Deacon Edward Casey. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township.
