Obituary

Samuel C. Artone, Sr., 81, of Greenfield Township, PA., died Sunday afternoon, April 10, 2011 at Mercy Hospice, Scranton, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Rose Mary Ward, who died August 22, 1987. Born February 21, 1930 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Carlo and Josephine (Cerra) Artone. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a heavy equipment operator by Keystone Sanitary Landfill in Throop, PA. He was an Army veteran and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the West Side Hose Company both of Carbondale. He was also a member of the Pioneer Rangers and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed spending hours tying fishing flies. He is survived by one son: Samuel Artone, Jr. and wife Cindy of Carbondale, PA.; four grandchildren: Joseph Lapiers, Alexandra, Maresa and Samantha Artone; four brothers: Joseph Artone of Richmondale, PA., Carmine Artone and wife Carol of Front Royal, VA., Anthony and James Artone both of Greenfield Township, PA.; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter: Mary Jo Artone, who died August 5, 2009. The funeral was held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Russell E. Motsay, pastor. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: James Artone, Michael Artone, Kevin Artone, Joseph Lapiers, Joseph Kavaka and James Bradley. Friends called Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 5-8 PM.
