IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruth
Hanyon
August 1, 1929 – April 2, 2023
Ruth passed away peacefully on Palm Sunday with her beloved cats, Muffy and Lucy, by her side.
She was the daughter of Rexford and Alphia Cook Hanyon, one of nine children, including her twin brother, Ralph. Born in Nicholson, PA, on Aug. 1, 1929, in the home where she grew up and lived her entire 93 years, she was very proud to have graduated from high school. She walked to work in the rug factory until it closed. She was very independent although never had (nor would talk on) a phone or car. For a time, she rented the upstairs of her home to her sister-in-law and her two children. Ruth's children were her cats, several of which she had over the years.
She is survived by her niece, Rose Every, from Louisiana; and several grand- and great-grandnieces and nephews.
Much appreciation and thanks go to the Allied Hospice staff, who did an incredible job taking daily care of Ruth allowing her to live in her home, where she was adamant, she stay with her cats. The staff's caring went far beyond their job descriptions — truly they are angels on earth.
There will be a small memorial service at the gravesite at a later date.
