Russell C. Davis, age 78, of Clifford Township, PA., died early Friday morning, August 2, 2013 at the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, PA. His wife of 57 years is the former Gayle Whitbeck. They were married July 19, 1956.
Born June 27, 1935 in Union Dale, PA., he was the son of the late Elmer T. and Eleanor (Harris) Davis.
Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He was a Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
He is survived by seven daughters: Joyce Mason and husband Jim of Old Forge, PA., Roxane Casey and husband Ralph of Old Forge, PA., Danita Eggelton of Clifford Township, PA., Linda Davis of Carbondale, PA., Dorothy Davis of Clifford Township, PA., Dolores Deacon of Hop Bottom, PA. and Pauline Davis of Clifford Township, PA. two sons: Charles Chuck Davis of Clarks Summit, PA. and Rodney Davis of Clifford Township, PA. 20 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five sisters: Alice Clark, Eleanor Oakley, Margaret Wood, Jean Toms and Annabelle Slick; four brothers: Robert, Elmer, Warren and Thomas Davis.
A graveside service with military honors was held at the convenience of the family in the Welsh Hill Cemetery, Union Dale, PA.
Cremation arrangements were under the care of the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Clifford, PA.
