Russell Clark age 94, of New Milford, passed away Monday, September 23, 2002 after an illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, the former Ann Irene Bohr, who died November 28, 1998.
Born January 2, 1908 in Scott Township, PA. He was the son of the late Grant and Maggie (Winters) Clark.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Milford. He was a direct descendent of Deacon William Clark, the founder of Clarks Summit and Clarks Green, Pennsylvania and a Revolutionary War veteran who fought in the Battle of Bunker Hill. After the untimely death of his father, Russell began working at the age of eight to support his family. He worked on a variety of farms in the area including the ICS Farm in Dalton, the Grace Farm in East Benton and the Pallman and Decker Farms in Clarks Summit. After moving to the Gibson area in the 1940s, Russell and his in-laws established a successful family farm which they worked for thirty years. Prior to his retirement, he also worked at the Hallstead Foundry in Hallstead, Pennsylvania.
Russell is remembered by all who knew him as hard-working, selfless, caring, and even-tempered man who loved his family. He was most often seen frequenting a diner for breakfast with his grandsons, visiting with his great-great granddaughter or tending his lawn and enviable flower and vegetable gardens.
He is survived by one sister: Freda; one brother: Grant; one Grandson: Charles F. Kovaleski, Jr. of Susquehanna, PA.; 2 Great Grandchildren; 1 Great Great Granddaughter
He was preceded in death by two grandsons: David and Michael Kovaleski; one step daughter: Vilma Kovaleski
The funeral was held Thursday, September 26, 2002 at 11:00 am from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Dundaff and Main Streets, Clifford, with the Rev. David Riley, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of New Milford officiating. Interment, Lakeview Cemetery, Jackson, PA.
Viewing was held Thursday, September 26, 2002 from 9:00 am until time of service.
