Rudolph A. Kasarda, 86, of Falls Township, PA, died February 8, 2025 at the Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, CA, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. His wife was the late Helen E. Labrosky, who died December 25, 2022. They were married June 17, 1961.
Born January 29, 1939 in Forest City, PA, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Payer Kasarda.
Rudy was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, PA, and received a bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education from McNeese State College, Lake Charles, LA. He then received a master's in Education and a masters in Political Science from East Stroudsburg University.
He was a United States Marine veteran, a prominent teacher and coach in the northeast PA community, a past member of Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton, PA, and current member of the Church of Saint Benedict, Dalton, PA.
He was a member of Emanon Country Club and an avid Raiders, Dodgers and Yankees fan. He enjoyed playing golf and traveling to NYC to see the Yankees play as often as he could.
He is survived by three children: Joseph A. Kasarda, San Francisco, CA, Cynthia Brunozzi of Lake Forest, CA and Rudy A. Kasarda of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren: Sabrina and Lena Brunozzi, Haley Haselton, Nicole, Cayden and Niko Kasarda, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, sisters: Betty Blazosky, Mary Redd and Florence Davitt, and three brothers: Robert, Edward and Stephen Kasarda.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Rudy was held Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. from Immaculate Conception Church, 801 Taylor Avenue, Scranton, PA, celebrated by Msgr. John Sempa, pastor of Corpus Christi Parish, West Pittston, PA. Interment for Rudy and his wife, Helen followed at St. John's Cemetery, Forest City, PA. The family received friends on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations were sent to the Boys and Girls Club, 609 Ash Street, Scranton, PA 18510.
