Roger C. Rogenkamp, 66, of Harford, PA, died Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at VNA Hospice, Scranton, PA. His wife is the former Diane Blank.
Born February 28, 1949 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late John and Joann Rannazzisi Rogenkamp.
Roger was a New York City Firefighter and took great pride in his job. He was praised by the people whose lives he saved and adored by his fellow fireman for his dedication and service.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart for his courage and heroism shown during the war.
As a young man, he was chosen to play baseball for the Boston Red Sox, but instead he enlisted in the Army. He was an avid Yankees fan and coached baseball for the Harford Baseball League in which he led to a championship. He was dedicated to his players and improving the look of the baseball field, purchasing any equipment needed on his own to help.
Roger was a remarkable, dedicated, strong man who had the biggest heart and loved his family very much.
He is survived by three sons: Christopher Rogenkamp and wife Heather of Brooklyn, PA, Sean Rogenkamp of Harford, PA and John Rogenkamp of Rockaway, NY; two grandchildren: Christopher and Sierra Rogenkamp; one sister: Linda Roth of Long Island, NY.
A funeral with full military honors was held Monday, May 18, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. in Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Boulevard, Calverton, Long Island, NY.
Friends called Saturday, May 16, 2015 from 2-5 p.m. at the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA.
