Robert W. Zavislak, 66, of Carbondale, PA, died Saturday evening, January 17, 2015 at Commonwealth Hospice, Scranton, PA, after an illness. Born July 22, 1948 in New York, NY, he was the son of the late Michael and Mary Orchick Zavislak and the step-son of the late Theresa Sloan-Zavislak. Bob was a graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School, Brooklyn, NY and Bronx Community College, Bronx, NY. He was employed for many years as a salesman for Service Lamp Corporation in New Jersey. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale and volunteered his time to the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign. For the past 15 years, he served as president of the Ostomy Support Group at Regional Hospital in Scranton where he selflessly devoted his time to its members. He always provided its members a positive image, encouragement and hope. Patty and Bill would like to thank the nurses and staff at Commonwealth Hospice as well as Drs. Kenneth Rudolph, Joseph Bannon, Martin Hyzinski and Harmar Brereton for their care and support to Bob during his illness. He is survived by his companion: Patricia Snedeker and her daughter Brittany of Carbondale, PA; one brother: William J. Zavislak of Carbondale, PA; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister: Katherine Kohut. The funeral was held Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, pastor. Cremation follow and Interment took place at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: William Zavislak, Frank Collura, Brian Mutcherson and Bryton Farber.
