Robert J. Turano, 65, of Greenfield Township, PA, died Monday morning, February 8, 2016 at the Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital, Scranton, PA, after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Born March 2, 1950 in Carbondale, PA, he is the son of the late William, Sr. and Philomena DeFazio Turano.
Bob was a 1968 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, PA and was the owner and operator of Pennsylvania Finest Hardwood for many years. He also was the owner and operator of the former Woodpecker Pub and Grill, Scott Township,PA. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Carbondale and enjoyed his many trips with Susan.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jeffrey Gryn and his hematology and oncology staff and to the staff at Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital, Scranton for the excellent care and compassion he received while in their care, especially his daytime nurse, Gina.
The family also would like to thank some of Bob's cousin's, Carney Tolerico, Gus Gallo and Peter DeFazio and friends, Richard Noldy, Jerry Martines, Timothy McCormick and Mike Caporali for their friendship and support during Bob's illness.
He is survived by his companion and caretaker: Susan Nichols of Moosic, PA; one niece: Season Slish and husband Nicholas of Honesdale, PA; one nephew: Nicholas Turano and wife Ashlie of Phoenix , AZ; two great nephews: Kameron Slish and Roman Turano; one great niece: Olivia Slish; aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one brother: William Turano, Jr.
The funeral was held Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Farview and 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook treet, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. John C. O'Bell, pastor and Deacon Edward Casey. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Nicholas Turano, Nicholas Slish, Carmine "Carney" Tolerico, Augustine Gallo, Peter DeFazio, Michael Caporali, Jerry Martines and Richard Noldy.
Friends called Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 5-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were sent to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 100 North 20th Street, Suite 405, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
