Robert J. Shifler, age 71, of Cape Coral, FL. and formerly of Carbondale, PA., passed away on Saturday afternoon, January 27, 2007 at the Cape Coral Hospital, Cape Coral, FL. His wife of 18 years is the former Sandy Cook.
Born October 13, 1935 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Oliver and Florence (Reynolds) Shifler.
He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Coral, Florida and was a graduate of the Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale. He was an Air Force veteran serving in the Korean War. He retired from Tortuga Beach Club in Sanibel Island, Florida where he was a maintenance manager. He also was a carpenter and mason.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by five daughters: Donna Chindimi of Carbondale, PA., Becky Fermato of Northampton, PA., Alisha McDonald of Cape Coral, FL., Candace Cohowcz of Cape Coral, FL. and Christine Cohowcz of Cape Coral, FL.; four sons: Glenn Shifler of Greenfield Township, PA., Bernie Cohowcz of Griffin, GA., Ronald Cohowcz of Cape Coral, FL. and Brian Cohowcz of Waymart, PA.; two brothers: Glynn C. Shifler of Kingsley, PA. and Oliver R. Shifler of Simpson, PA.; 9 Grandchildren; Several Nieces Nephews; his former wife: Betty Jean Fazio of Carbondale, PA.
He was preceded in death by one nephew: Bruce Shifler
A memorial service was held Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at 7:00 PM in the Grace United Methodist Church, Cape Coral, FL, with services by Rev. Jorge Acevedo.
A memorial service was also held Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 1:00 PM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Dundaff Main Streets, Clifford, PA., with services by the Rev. Wil Sharpe of the Free Methodist Conference, Albany, NY. and his son-in-law, Steve Fermato.
