Obituary

Robert J. Mlinar, 87, of Carbondale, PA, died Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Commonwealth Health Wilkes Barre General Hospital, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Lois A. Germano.

Born July 22, 1935 in Forest City, PA, he was the son of the late Jack and Mary Orasin Mlinar.

Bob was a graduate of Forest City High School and served in the U.S. Army having been stationed in Germany. He was self-employed for many years having owned Mlinar Refuse Service, Carbondale, and retired from SCI-Waymart where he was an instructor. He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, Mitchell Hose Company, Carbondale, and the American Legion. For Bob, mornings were not complete without breakfast at Pinky's Restaurant. He and Lois enjoyed traveling to dances where they loved the polkas, big bands and square dancing. Before his illness, Bob belonged to several local bowing and golf leagues for many years.

The family would like to thank Bob's sister, Dorothy Curtis, Darlene Kline and Roseann Bartholomew who helped to care for Bob over the past year. Lois extends a special thank you to her son-in-law, Jerry, who assisted with Bob's care on a daily basis.

He is survived by two daughters: Lisa Grecco and husband, Jerry of Carbondale, PA, and Dr. Laura Swingle, and husband, Frederick of Morgantown, WV; four grandchildren: Kyle and Rebecca Grecco, Jonathan and Lila Shaderowfsky; an honorary grandson: Qwintin Krenitsky; one sister: Dorothy Curtis of Carbondale, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister: Marie Mlinar.

The funeral was held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Seth Wasnak, pastor. Committal and military services followed at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

Pallbearers: John Shaderowfsky, Fred Swingle, Jr., Fred Swingle, Sr., Daryl Kelsch, Thomas Kelsch, Colin Kelsch, Qwintin Krenitsky and Jacob Curtis.

Viewing hours were held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 from 4-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions were made to the Carbondale Y.M.C.A., 82 N. Church Street, Carbondale, PA 18407
