Obituary

Robert M. Lavin, age 76, of Royal, PA., died Friday evening, June 7, 2013 at the Mid Valley Hospital, Peckville, PA. His wife of 54 years is the former Betty Wells. They were married June 14, 1958. Born March 8, 1937 in Forest City, PA., he was the son of the late Maurice and Rose (Yurkovic) Lavin. He was a member of the National Guard 109th Infantry and worked at PennDot. He was also a member of the Operating Engineers Local 542 and a lifetime member of the Clifford Township Volunteer Fire Company. He worked as a police officer for Clifford Township and enjoyed working with stained glass, painting pictures and astronomy. He was proud of his Irish heritage and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He also had a love for his dog Seven who he missed very much after his passing. He is survived by three daughters: Cynthia Saxon and husband Vincent of South Gibson, PA., Lynne Kovacs and husband Michael of Union Dale, PA. and Laurie Lopatofsky and husband Robert of Union Dale, PA.; two sons: Robert C. Lavin of Union Dale, PA. and Edward M. Lavin and wife Susan of Union Dale, PA.; one brother: Thomas Lavin and wife Josephine of Vandling, PA.; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Nonnenmacher and husband Matthew, Michael Kovacs, Ryan and Matthew Lavin, Cooper, Molly and Simon Lopatofsky; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister: Jean Paluch; one niece: Catherine Tomazic The funeral was held Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 10:00 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA. Interment with Military Honors, Clifford Valley Cemetery, Clifford, PA. Friends called Tuesday, June 11, 2013 from 4-7 PM. Memorial Contributions were sent to the Clifford Township Volunteer Fire Company. Pallbearers: Grandsons: Matthew Lavin, Ryan Lavin, Michael Kovacs and Matthew Nonnemacher; Nephews: David and Joshua Wells.
