Robert H. Kilmer, 92, of Carbondale, PA, died Friday afternoon, April 14, 2017 at the Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, PA, after a lengthy illness. His wife is the former Ann L. Newcomb. This August they would have celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Born November 27, 1924 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Cecil and Elizabeth Kelly Kilmer.
Bob was a 1942 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre as a medical aid man. He received four battle stars for serving in New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago, Southern Philippines and Luzon.
He had been employed by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad as an industrial electrician for 17 years. He later worked at Hendrick Manufacturing and retired from Cross Engineering both of Carbondale. Bob was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale, the I.B.E.W., Local 81 in Scranton and was a life member of VFW Post 5544, Jessup. He also formerly served on the electrical advisory board of the vo-tech school.
He and his wife were avid dancers who enjoyed going out with their friends to the local dances. Bob had a great sense of humor and will always be remembered for his sparkling personality.
He is survived by two sons: John P. Kilmer and wife Judy and Brian P. Kilmer all of Scranton, PA; two daughters: Sister Nancy Kilmer, IHM. of Scranton, PA and Laure Carlo and husband Ted of Mayfield, PA; three grandchildren: Kimberly Snyder and husband John, Brandon Carlo and Jonathan Naro; three great grandchildren: Dakota Rose Snyder, Paige Kelly Snyder and Quintin Naro; one sister: Ruth Kent of Lancaster, PA; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. from Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place at Terrace Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial a 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 North Church Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. James Price, C.P., pastor. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Pallbearers: Brandon Carlo, Ted Carlo, Charles Newcomb, Casey Newcomb, Quintin Naro, Jonathan Naro and John Snyder.
