Robert H. Durst, Sr., 70, of Carbondale, PA, died Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore, PA, surrounded by his family. Born April 21, 1948 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Ernest and Sarah Perry Durst. Robert was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, and then enlisted in the Air Force where he was discharged as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He also was a firefighter in the Air Force. He later worked at Gentex Corporation before finding his passion as a Certified Nursing Aid at the Forest City Nursing Home, where he retired after 25 years. He enjoyed yard work, singing and Christmas time. He loved cooking and baking for his family and they will miss his favorite dishes such as lasagna and sugar cookies. Along with his children and grandchildren, he cherished his dogs: Dutchess, Buster and Stark. He is survived by three children: Robert H. Durst, Jr. and wife Kelly of Whites Crossing, PA, Sabrina Wagner and husband Joe, Sr. of Carbondale, PA and Michelle Cipilewski and husband Mike of Waymart, PA; four grandchildren: Tyler and Jaxon Durst, Eric Race-Durst, Joey Wagner, Jr., and a fifth grandchild that is due on January 3, 2019; two sisters: Delores Harris and Beverly Dearie, both of Carbondale, PA; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers: Ernest, Jerry, James, Alan and Henry Durst; and one sister: Naomi Rude. The funeral and military honors were held Thursday, November 1, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. from the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 4 Morris Place, Carbondale, PA, officiated by Pastor Donald Perry, of the First United Methodist Church of Carbondale.
