Robert C. Dance, 90, of Greenfield Township, PA, died Saturday, July 29, 2023, with his wife by his side. He is survived by his wife the former Eileen Urda. They would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on August 6th.

Born January 20, 1933 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late George Andrew and Ruth Grosvner Dance.

Bob was a 1950 graduate of Scott High School and following graduation he started his career as a shipping manager for Perguett, Inc. He then began his life long career and passion for telephones in 1956 working as a lineman for Jasper Telford in Chapman Lake. In 1971, known then as Contel, he became the plant manager for the Chapman Lake, Beach Lake, Narrowsburg, NY and Galilee offices. In 1973, he became local manager for Contel and worked out of Narrowsburg, NY. In 1988, Bob retired from what then was GTE Telephone Company.

Bob was a special man involved in many activities. During his lifetime, he was active with the Lakeland School Authority, Boy Scouts, Greenfield Township Planning Commission as treasurer, Narrowsburg Chamber of Commerce, past president and director of Pioneers ITPA, lifetime member of the Nearea Telephone Association and a Lakeland School Board member until his first daughter graduated. He was also an active member of St. Michael's Orthodox Church, Jermyn.

Bob had a 55 year plus lifelong commitment and involvement with the Clifford Township Volunteer Fire Company. Some called him "Governor" because he liked to direct others. Over the years he held the VP office, was on the board of directors, ambulance lieutenant and Relief Association treasurer. He became an EMT and was very involved in the ambulance portion of the fire company. In his older years he drove the ambulance. He had many valued friends in the Fire Department. He loved the Clifford picnic. The picnic is also where he had his first encounter with Eileen whom he often referred to her as his "Dolly".

Bob was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, confident and friend. His family called him "Handy Andy" as there was not much he couldn't do. He built his home and did many remodels for others.

His family was very blessed to have him for 90 years. We would like to thank Allied Services Rehabilitation and Transitional Unit and the wonderful staff and aides of the Carbondale Nursing Home for their care and kindness to Bob and his family.

He is also survived by two daughters: Diane Tierney and husband, James, Sr. of Scott Township, PA and Tammy Pascoe and husband, Ron of Jermyn, PA; four grandchildren: Tara Golinski and husband, Stephen of North Abington Township, PA, Shannon Penzone, Jesse Anderline and fiance, Rosie Crown and Austin Anderline, all of Jermyn, PA; four great-grandchildren: Zachary Setzer and wife, Krystal, Riley Setzer, Casey and Molly Penzone; one great-great grandchild: Madelyn Setzer; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a sister: Thelma Dance Kloda.

A Requiem service was held Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Michael's Orthodox Church, 305 Walnut Street, Jermyn, PA, with Rev. Fr. John Black, pastor, officiating.  Interment followed at the Willow View Cemetery, Clifford, PA.

Pallbearers: Zachary Setzer, Riley Setzer, Jesse Anderline, Austin Anderline, Casey Penzone, Dan O'Rourke, Michael Zeshonski, Phil Price and Al Fortuner.

Friends called Wednesday, August 2, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. with a Parastas service at 6:30 p.m. from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA.
