Rita J. Barkosky Bevacqua, 91, of Carbondale, PA, passed away Wednesday morning, February 14, 2018 at Regional Hospital, Scranton, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Armand J. Bevacqua on January 10, 2008.
Born in Forest City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sophia Syrica Barkosky and was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Carbondale. She was a wonderful homemaker, mom, mother-in-law, grandmother and Nana. When she became a grandmother she loved being with her granddaughters and playing cards with them, especially rummy. She also enjoyed spending time with her friend, Mary Dzwonczyk and especially looked forward to her visits with Betty Fedak.
She was a great baker and cook, who made the best nut roll and it was nothing for her to make a dozen at one time.
She is survived by a daughter: Gina Bomba of Newton Lake, PA; a son: Joseph Bevacqua and wife Mary Beth of Scott Township, PA; three granddaughters: Melissa Bevacqua and husband Scott Kramer, Emily Bomba and fiance Dustin Holeva and Mia Bomba; a great grandson: Landon Holeva; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son: Dominick; ten siblings: Edward, Robert, Thomas, Leo, Henry, Joseph Barkosky, Henrietta Cannizzaro, Felicia Stackhouse, Jenny Lee, and Celia Amato,
The funeral was held Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. from the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 89 Farview Street, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Paul Fontanella, assistant pastor. Entombment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.
Pallbearers: Dustin Holeva, Scott Kramer, William Farber and Michael Bomba.
