Richard E. Lupyak, 85, of Carbondale, PA, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, the former Elizabeth "Betty" Moran on December 9, 2011.

Born in Forest City, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Adlis Lupyak.

Richard was a graduate of Forest City High School. After high school, he worked for the Big Chief Market in Forest City, before beginning his career as a machinist for IBM in Endicott, NY. He worked for IBM until his retirement in 1993. Upon retirement, Richard worked for Singer's Plumbing in Carbondale. He was long-time member of St. Rose of Lima Parish in Carbondale.

When not tinkering in his garden or with home improvement projects, he could be found helping friends and neighbors with theirs. Richard was an avid outdoorsman who could often be found hunting the woods of Susquehanna and Wayne counties or navigating the many streams and lakes in the region.

Richard's family would like to give a sincere thank you to the staff of the Carbondale Nursing Home for the care and compassion they showed him during the past year. Especially the members of his "gardening club".

He is survived by a daughter: Marion Yurgosky and husband, Keith of Newton Lake, PA; a son: Edward Lupyak of Truckee, CA. However, the greatest joy in his life were his six grandchildren: Annie, Emily, and Maggie Yurgosky and Charlotte, Beck and Wyatt Lupyak; a brother: Joseph of Fayetteville, NC; and a sister: Helen of Carbondale, PA.

He was also preceded in death by a sister: Marion.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, PA., celebrated by Rev. Joseph Mosley, senior priest. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA.

A viewing was held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations were made to Meals on Wheels of NEPA, 541 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton, PA 18509
