Obituary

Richard William Gumpert, 72, Greenfield Township, PA., died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at home. He was the husband of the former Joanne Ihle who died on September 9, 2006. Born October 27, 1939 in Carbondale, PA., he was the son of the late Leroy and Margaret Gladys McGowan Gumpert. He was a 1957 graduate of St. Rose High School in Carbondale and served in the Navy. He retired from IBM in Burlington, Vermont as a chief salary analyst. While residing in Burlington, Vermont he also had his own farm that he operated and used to volunteer his time to counsel prisoners at the local prisons. He was the owner of Ragged Island Books and traveled to many book and antique fairs. He enjoyed reading, gardening and genealogy. He was passionate about the arts and was a lover of Shakespearean readings. He is survived by three sisters: Donna Villano and husband Anthony of South Abington Township, PA., Carol Gumpert of South Abington Township, PA. and Margaret Davidow and husband Joseph of Ringtown, PA.; five nephews and nieces: Anthony Villano, Jr., Thomas Villano, Joseph, Sharon and Heather Davidow; two godchildren: Melissa and Michael Bruno. As per his request, he was cremated and no services were held. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to the Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
