Richard J. Evans, age 86, of Hawley, PA., died early Tuesday morning, March 5, 2013 at St. Mary's Villa, Elmhurst, PA. His wife was the former Ruth E. Lounsbury, who died May 18, 1997.
Born June 16, 1926 in Kingston, PA., he was the son of the late Fredrick J. and Anna (Jones) Evans.
Richard retired as a master electrician after 40 years from Lederle Laboratories, Pearl River, New York. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Naurashank Masonic Lodge 589, Pearl River, New York and his family owned and operated Diamond E Stables in Spring Valley, New York for 13 years. He also donated his time as a coach to the South Orangetown Little League, Orangeburg, New York. He was a former member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre and also sung in its choir.
He is survived by four daughters: Kathy Schill and husband Richard of Bahama , NC., Carol Bundenthal and husband William of Warwick, NY., Sandy Mihalis of Lenoxville, PA. and Tami Prager and husband Adley of Rougemont, NC.; five grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Rachel Schill and Brianna, Corissa and William, Jr. Bundenthal
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Margaret and Nancy.
The funeral was held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10:00 AM from the Shifler-Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 18 Airport Road, Clifford, PA., officiated by Rev. Donald Schaible, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, Carbondale, PA. Interment, Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas, PA.
Friends called Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 9:00 - 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations were sent to the American Cancer Society.
