Rebello Raymond Mancini, of Throop, PA., died Wednesday morning, January 26, 2011 at home after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years the former Eleanor Pavlowski, who died in 1997.
Born in Hudson, PA., he was the son of the late John and Livie (Manilli) Mancini.
He was a Corporal in the Army during World War II having served in Tunisia, Sicily, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland Ardennes and Central Europe earning seven bronze stars. He also earned a saving citation for carrying a wounded soldier to safety after a mine explosion. Prior to his retirement in 1982, he had been employed as a tailor for The Globe Store in Scranton, PA. for 35 years.
He raised and raced homing pigeons and was the oldest member of the Scranton Pigeons Club serving over 60 years. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish, Throop and the American Legion, Post 327, Olyphant, PA., and an avid Phillies fan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Alocci and staff as well as the Diakon Hospice Saint John in Honesdale for all of the care given to Ray over the years, especially Lisa and Kristy. They would also like to thank some of nurses who cared for Ray over the years including Blanche, Bonnie, Jane, Joan, Betty, Hidi, Cheryl and Rosie.
He is survived by his niece and caregiver for the past 13 years, Mary Lagana and husband Francis of Carbondale, PA.; niece: Joann Gleason of Connecticut, nephew: John James Mancini of Florida; niece: Mary Reilly of New Jersey; nephew: Louis Giordano of Clarks Summit, PA.; and 20 other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother: Liebro Mancini; one sister: Vera Giordano.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, January 28, 2011 at 9:30 AM at St. Anthony's Church, 215 Rebecca Street, Throop, celebrated by the Rev. James Dougher, administrator of Blessed Sacrament Parish. Interment, St. Anthony's Cemetery, Dickson City, PA.
Pallbearers: Richard Rafalko, Thomas Calpin, Thomas Healey, Richard Bozym and Thomas Pavlowski.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
