Phyllis E. Rekus, age 85, a lifelong resident of Carbondale, PA., died Sunday evening, July 12, 2009 at the Osprey Ridge Health Care Center, Carbondale, PA. She was the wife of the late John J. Rekus, who died May 11, 2001. Born July 8, 1924 in Carbondale, PA., she was the daughter of the late John and Fernata (Gigliotti) Cerra.She was a 1942 graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School in Carbondale and worked for Gentex Corporation in Simpson, PA., Weston in Archbald, PA. and the American Red Cross in Carbondale. She enjoyed crocheting and was a former member of the Happy 8 Club in Carbondale.
The family would like to thank AseraCare Hospice in Clarks Summit and Osprey Ridge Health Care Center in Carbondale for all of their help and kindness they gave to Phyllis during her illness. She is survived by one son: John Rekus and wife Judy of Carbondale, PA.; two granddaughters: Brenda Rekus of Carbondale, PA. and Dawn; one brother: Anthony Cerra and companion Maggie of Orange Park, FL.; two sisters-in-law: Antoinette Cerra of Simpson, PA. and Mary Cerra of Carbondale, PA.She was preceded in death by two brothers: Joseph and Bernard Cerra.The funeral was held Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 9:00 AM from the Carmine J. Louis C. Parise Funeral Home Cremation Services, Inc., Farview 41st Streets, Carbondale, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 15 Fallbrook Street, Carbondale, celebrated by Rev. Russell E. Motsay, pastor. Interment, parish cemetery, Carbondale.Pallbearers: Ryan Cosklo, Dennis Carden, Jack Hoizon, Allan Richardson, Kyle Nepa and Paul Nepa. Friends called Wednesday, July 15, 2009 from 5-8 PM.
