Obituary

Phillip J. Tolerico, 93, of Hollywood, FL, died peacefully at home on Monday, November 16, 2020 among loved ones from the blessings of a long life. Born April 22, 1927 in Carbondale, PA, he was the son of the late Phillip and Mary Caljean Tolerico. Upon graduation from Benjamin Franklin High School, Carbondale, Phil proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy having served on the battleship, U.S.S. New Jersey as a yeoman during the Korean War. He later furthered his education by receiving both his bachelor's and master's degree from Temple University. Phil enjoyed 25 years of employment with Sunoco Oil's customer relations department in Philadelphia. Upon his retirement from Sunoco, he purchased the Surf Terrace Apartments in Hollywood, FL, and operated it until his passing. He was a member of The Little Flower Catholic Church, Hollywood, FL. Phil had a warm and charming personality and cherished the lifelong relationships he made with so many people over the years. He was a devout Catholic and was very generous. Every year many of his friends would look forward to his gift of a Honey Baked Ham package during the holidays. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by a brother: Louis Tolerico of Baltimore, MD; numerous nieces and nephews; and his friend and caretaker, Don Rehling. He was also preceded in death by siblings: Janet Grayeski, Joseph, Anthony, Raymond, Hubert and James Tolerico. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Rose of Lima Church, 6 N. Church Street, Carbondale, PA, celebrated by Rev. Jeffrey Walsh, pastor. Interment with military honors, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Greenfield Township, PA. Friends called Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the church. Arrangements by Edward A. Wade Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Carbondale, PA.
